This course is designed to train candidates to correctly test electrical appliances using PAT testing equipment. It should be attended by employees or managers wishing to become an appointed person for Portable Appliance (PAT) Testing within organisations utilising electrical appliances....

Who Should Attend?

PAT Testing is a skill that can be learned by almost anyone such as office maintenance staff or landlords. Some basic electrical knowledge is useful but not essential.

Joining Instructions

Specific PAT Testing joining instructions will be supplied to you (if appropriate) once your booking is confirmed. If, once confirmation has been received, you are in anyway unsure of what prerequisites or items you need to bring or provide, then your dedicated training manager or the trainer conducting your course will be able to confirm this with you. Contact numbers and ways to get in touch will be provided.

Course Agenda

Equipment construction and classification will be covered in the first part of the course, providing an understanding of the different types of equipment and their safety requirements. Inspection frequency will also be discussed to ensure that participants are aware of how often they should be checking their equipment. Visual inspection techniques will be taught to identify any potential hazards.

The second part of the course will focus on combined inspection and testing methods, using appropriate test equipment. Participants will learn how to properly use and maintain these tools. Recording of results will also be emphasized to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations. Procedures for dealing with damaged or faulty equipment will be covered to ensure safe handling and disposal.

Specific topics such as extension leads, microwave ovens, and information technology equipment will be addressed in the third part of the course. Participants will learn how to properly inspect and test these types of equipment to ensure their safety. They will also be taught how to handle and maintain these items in a safe manner.

The final part of the course will focus on practical exercises and assessments to reinforce the knowledge and skills learned throughout the training. Participants will have the opportunity to put their learning into practice and receive feedback from the trainer. They will also have the chance to ask any remaining questions and clarify any doubts. By the end of the course, participants will have a thorough understanding of PAT and be equipped with the necessary skills to carry out inspections and testing in their workplace..

Welcome to the Birmingham Training Centre! Our venue is conveniently located in the town of Birmingham, with a postcode of B75AR. We offer limited free parking spaces for delegates on a first come first serve basis, as well as free parking options nearby. During your training, we will provide you with refreshing drinks to keep you energized and focused. Our centre is easily accessible by following the directions from either the B4132 or Saltley Road. Simply turn off into Nechells Place or Cato Street North and follow the signs to the Albion Vaults pub. From there, its just a short walk to our training centre, which is the first building on the left. Please note that parking spaces directly outside the training centre are limited, so we recommend arriving early to secure a spot. If you are arriving in a large van or lorry, we kindly ask that you park on Nechells Place instead. We also ask that you do not park in front of any other units on the estate. Successful candidates will achieve a City & Guilds 2377-22 Certificate for the Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment PAT. This award is recognised by City & Guilds and is valid for 5 years.
