Course Information

For the delegate to be trained to be competent to inspect and test electrical appliances, fully assessing if it is safe for use based upon both testing and inspection.

Who Should Attend?

PAT Testing is a skill that can be learned by almost anyone such as office maintenance staff or landlords. Some basic electrical knowledge is useful but not essential.

Joining Instructions

Specific PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) joining instructions will be supplied to you (if appropriate) once your booking is confirmed. If, once confirmation has been received, you are in anyway unsure of what prerequisites or items you need to bring or provide, then your dedicated training manager or the trainer conducting your course will be able to confirm this with you. Contact numbers and ways to get in touch will be provided.

Course Agenda

Equipment construction and classification will be covered in the first part of the course, providing an understanding of the different types of equipment and their safety requirements. Inspection frequency will also be discussed to ensure that participants are aware of how often they should be checking their equipment. Visual inspection techniques will be taught to identify any potential hazards.

The second part of the course will focus on combined inspection and testing methods, using appropriate test equipment. Participants will learn how to properly use and maintain these tools. Recording of results will also be emphasized to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations. Procedures for dealing with damaged or faulty equipment will be covered to ensure safe handling and disposal.

Specific topics such as extension leads, microwave ovens, and information technology equipment will be addressed in the third part of the course. Participants will learn how to properly inspect and test these types of equipment to ensure their safety. They will also be taught how to handle and maintain these items in a safe manner.

The final part of the course will focus on practical exercises and assessments to reinforce the knowledge and skills learned throughout the training. Participants will have the opportunity to put their learning into practice and receive feedback from the trainer. They will also have the chance to ask any remaining questions and clarify any doubts. By the end of the course, participants will have a thorough understanding of PAT and be equipped with the necessary skills to carry out inspections and testing in their workplace..

Getting here is easy, whether youre travelling by car or train.If youre driving, simply take the M5 and exit at Junction 16. From there, follow the A38 towards Thornbury/Filton and turn onto Gloucester Road. After 0.3 miles, turn left onto Over Lane, then your first right onto Sunday Hills, and right onto Hollow Road. Youll then turn right back onto Gloucester Road and our destination will be on the left.For those travelling by train, the nearest railway station is Bristol Parkway, just four miles away. This station is well-serviced by trains from all over England and Wales. From there, its just a 15-minute taxi ride to the Training Centre.If youre coming from Bristol, simply head northeast on the M32 and take the M4 exit towards S Wales/M5. Successful candidates will achieve a City & Guilds 2377-22 Certificate for the Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment PAT. This award is recognised by City & Guilds and is valid for 5 years.
