Course Information

The aim of the course is to provide candidates with the basic understanding and practical skills involved in operating a Road Roller. By the end the course, all successful candidates will be able to execute a pre-shift inspection and operate the Road Roller safely and correctly in accordance with accepted good practice and NPORS standards. They will also be able to operate the machine safely under varying site conditions and carry out minor adjustments and routine services. We will also ensure that delegates have a thorough knowledge of the responsibilities under all relevant health and safety legislation.

Specific N214 Road Roller joining instructions will be supplied to you (if appropriate) once your booking is confirmed. If, once confirmation has been received, you are in anyway unsure of what prerequisites or items you need to bring or provide, then your dedicated training manager or the trainer conducting your course will be able to confirm this with you. Course Agenda

The N214 Road Roller training course is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to operate a road roller safely and efficiently. The course begins with an introduction and course aims, followed by an overview of current regulations that govern the use of road rollers. Participants will also learn about the structural parts of the road roller and how they contribute to its operation.

Safety is of utmost importance when operating a road roller, and participants will be shown a safety operator video to highlight potential hazards and safe operating methods. They will also be trained on how to conduct pre-use inspections and handovers to ensure the road roller is in good working condition. The course will cover the coolant, fuel, and lubrication systems of the road roller to ensure participants understand their importance in maintaining the machines functionality.

Participants will also learn about the proper techniques for rolling and compacting different types of surfaces. This includes using the correct staggers and overlaps to achieve the desired level of compaction. They will also be trained on how to maintain cambers and cross falls, as well as how to properly compact junctions. The course will conclude with a theory test, practical assessment, and course evaluation to ensure participants have grasped the concepts and are ready to operate a road roller safely and effectively.

Welcome to the Podington Training Centre! Located in the charming town of Podington, our centre is easily accessible via the A509 from Wellingborough. Simply head southwest on Niort Way and take the 2nd exit onto Park Farm Way at the roundabout. From there, continue straight until you reach Wilby Way Roundabout and take the 2nd exit onto Higham Rd. Then, follow the A509 ramp to Wellingboro/M. Keynes and take the 2nd exit at Little Irchester Jct onto Turnells Mill Ln. After the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto London Rd and continue on Gipsy Ln and Wollaston Rd. Finally, turn left onto Irchester Rd and then left onto Hinwick Rd.
