Course Information

Attendees should complete the service with an understanding of the necessary control measures required for safe use of abrasive wheel equipment, include selection and fitting of disc’s and cutters. Managers and supervisors will be able to assess whether their work force are using abrasive wheel equipment safely and in harmony with current safe working practices. ...

Who Should Attend?

Operatives whose duties are to include working with and changing abrasive wheels equipment Inc: Hand held Grinders/disc cutters, STIHL type saws, bench mounted grinders, cut off saws. If requested a full day course is available which will include safe practical cutting, grinding or marking methods. Face fit testing also available on the same day, please get in touch to discuss further. This course would suit managers, charge hands and supervisors who also manage or supply for use abrasive wheel equipment.

Joining Instructions

All delegates MUST have had a minimum of 3 months employment. They must also be physically fit, able to carry out the practical assessment and have sufficient experience in the work place to be deemed competent to use the equipment after successful training. ​ Note: restricted certification can be issued for Novice workers​

Course Agenda

Review of current legislation Review of HSG 17 (HSE Published guidance for abrasive wheels) Detailed discussion on Noise, dust and vibration hazards and control Changing and selection of wheel/disc types Machine pre use inspections Cutting methods and posture Correct method of stopping and isolating Short theory test and practical assessment Optional practical cutting and grinding session.
