Frequently Asked Questions

Most commonly asked CompEx Modules EX01 To EX04 For Gas And Vapour Environments questions:

The standard programme runs for five consecutive days, including theory sessions, practical workshops and formal assessments.

Delegates should hold a recognised electrical or instrumentation qualification and have practical experience of working with industrial electrical systems.

The modules address hazardous area classification, protection concepts Ex d, Ex e, Ex n, Ex p and Ex i, correct installation methods, inspection regimes to IEC 60079-17, documentation and maintenance practices.

Assessment includes written multiple-choice papers for each module plus observed practical tasks where delegates install, inspect and document work on representative Ex equipment.

Delegates who pass all assessments receive an official CompEx certificate for Modules EX01 to EX04, valid for five years and recorded on the national CompEx database.

The certificate remains valid for five years. Refresher training and reassessment are required before the expiry date to maintain competence and certification.

EX01 to EX04 focus exclusively on gas and vapour environments. EX05 and EX06 cover combustible dust atmospheres and require separate training.

Delegates should bring valid photographic ID, their own PPE including safety footwear, and any site-specific permit or isolation procedures they commonly use.

Yes. The CompEx certificate demonstrates the competence required by most UK operators and contractors for work in gas and vapour hazardous areas.

Practical sessions use a wide range of certified Ex d, Ex e, Ex n, Ex p and Ex i equipment including junction boxes, motors, luminaires, sensors and intrinsically safe loops.

While not mandatory, previous site experience helps delegates relate the theory and practical tasks to real workplace situations.

The course is based on current editions of IEC 60079 series standards, including IEC 60079-14 for installation and IEC 60079-17 for inspection and maintenance.

Prices per person typically start at £0. Discounts available for multi person or group bookings (depending upon location)
